Discussion:

According to Equity, the only thing we are certain of is that dominant groups use power to victimize the oppressed. We cannot know for sure that the stars we see in the night sky are globes of nuclear fusion reactors no matter how much evidence we gather, because the people who discovered these things have been primarily white men and this makes what they found suspect. 

Clearly evaluating the truth of something based on the skin pigment or gender of the person talking is highly problematic.

Equity disagrees and says we need to view things through the eyes of other cultures and value other knowledge because marginalized groups have greater access to truth. We need to set aside our eurocentric understandings and consider other perspectives, like the idea that the stars are actually the spirits of gods. 

This kind of religious thinking is very dangerous and causes us to care more about the skin color of the person who is presenting knowledge than about the reality of the knowledge itself.
