Common meaning:
The science of applying knowledge in practical ways to build things.
Hidden meaning of the Equity religion:
A subject with a tradition of misogyny.
Discussion:
Equity believers think that the subject of engineering is infused with misogyny and sexism. The evidence for this is that more men take the subject than women do.
According to Equity theology, there are no differences between human males and females. If we see a difference between the number of women vs. the number of men in a particular subject, the only possible reason is sexism. In engineering, there are many more men than women so that is proof that the oppressive group of men is participating in misogyny toward the women. Steps need to be taken to increase the number of women in the subject and eliminate systemic sexism.
In the real world, biological men are different from biological women and have a tendency to like dealing with ideas and building things, while women typically prefer to deal with people. The reason that more men take engineering has everything to do with the fact that men prefer it and nothing to do with any illusionary sexism.
Using the idea that if an unbalance occurs between groups, then it must be the result of oppression, is both wrong and dangerous.
