Common meaning:
Harm experienced by parents can impact their children through how they are raised. Hurt people hurt people.
Hidden meaning of the Equity religion:
People in marginalized groups experience the trauma that was inflicted on their ancestors by the ancestors of people from dominant groups.
Discussion:
The Equityists believe that groups have a special property of permanence, which means that any harm inflicted on the group in the past is causing trauma on all members of the group in the present.
It is true that parents can pass on their hurts to their children, but it is also possible that they can choose to stop the cycle of harm. The question is not, How much killing did our ancestors do? because we will never know the answer to that, but, Are we willing to forgive others?
Religions often struggle with the difficult question of forgiving your enemy. In Christianity, there is a story in the Gospel of Matthew where Jesus is asked how many times we are to forgive. Should it be 7 times? and Jesus replies no, 70×7. The Equity religion doesn’t believe in forgiveness. It only is interested in revenge. Any hurt in the past that occurred to the ancestors of the oppressed must be avenged.
Forgiveness is the only way to stop the cycle of revenge.
