Common meaning:
Unconscious preference for certain types of people or things.
Hidden meaning of the Equity religion:
All of the cultural values of the dominant groups are biased and none of the values of the minoritized groups are.
Discussion:
The doctrines of Equity declare that all cultural values of the dominant group are biased. There is nothing that a person from a dominant group can say that will not be tainted with falsehood, and therefore they can be ignored.
The reason that cultural values exist is that they provide value and utility for the group. This means that logically, any group, including ones labeled as dominant, will have a bias toward their own values. It is good to be aware of this fact but to turn around and declare that because of implicit bias all people and ideas from dominant groups need to be ignored is very dangerous.
The Equityists believe there is nothing that a person from a minoritized group can say that will not be completely true and therefore what they say must be acted upon immediately.
It is good to hear the perspective of those in minoritized groups but to pretend that people in them do not have bias and to require others to accept all their values without discussion is very dangerous.
