Intent – Does the intent of people matter?
(Intent is irrelevant because what matters is the effect vs. intent matters.)
Common meaning:
A desire or plan to do something.
Hidden meaning of the Equity religion:
Intention is irrelevant because what really matters is the effect.
Discussion:
The Equityists think that what a person intends does not matter and what we need to focus on is the effect. If a person in a minoritized group claims they are harmed by a person from a dominant group, that is all that matters. What the person from the dominant group intended is irrelevant.
Even a small amount of thinking reveals how ridiculous this type of idea is. For example, I should never be held at fault if I blow soap bubbles in my backyard and one of them distracts a neighbor causing them to run over a dog.
All the Equityists know how to do is look for fault and ignore intent. If 95 percent of people can see color and 5 percent are color blind, an Equityist person knows the following: The color seeing group has oppressed the color blind group. All people in the color seeing group need to repent for the damage their ancestors did to the color blind group. Any color seeing person’s intent to not harm color blind people is irrelevant.
Intent must matter or we slip too easily into revenge and retribution.
