The Equityists believe that because things are so horrifically terrible in Western society, there is nothing to laugh at. Any laughter that does occur is being used to make fun of people in oppressed groups.

The truth is that compared to the illusionary utopian ideal promoted by Equity, yes, things are horrific in the West today, but compared to practically any place and point in human history, this is the best things have ever been.

Since Equityist followers do not believe in human universals or individuality but only the existence of groups, they are extremely touchy when it comes to laughter. This is for a number of reasons. First, since the only thing that actually exists is groups, any laughter that occurs must be directed at groups. Second, since they don’t believe in individuality, people are not allowed to make fun of themselves. Third, since they don’t believe in human universals, they refuse to acknowledge the flaws and foibles of human existence. As a result of these three things, every joke told must be an attack on particular groups and that makes laughter wrong.
