Common meaning:
To make individuals responsible for something.
Hidden meaning of the Equity religion:
Expecting the marginalized to be responsible for themselves is oppressive.
Discussion:
The Equity believers think that life is so oppressive for the marginalized that expecting them to be responsible for themselves is a joke. They have no power to impact the world around them, other than to protest the travesty of injustice they are experiencing.
The faith of Equity does not believe in the individual, only the group. There can be no personal responsibility and no personal fault, which means that all fault for every situation must belong completely with the dominant group.
One of the favorite words of the Equityists is minoritized because it denotes that something terrible has been done to the victimized group. Since they were not responsible for what has been done to them, the belief is they cannot be held responsible to fix it.
In reality, expecting the marginalized to be responsible for themselves is a challenge, but it is not oppressive.
